Eco Clean Active Initiative is a youth-led, registered non-governmental organization founded in 2019 with United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) observer status, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) observer status, and United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) accreditation, dedicated to addressing environmental issues, promoting the welfare of the environment, and achieving a sustainable development across the globe.

Our mission is to protect and preserve the environment for habitation through environmental awareness campaign, community mobilization and engagement, capacity building, advocacy and strategic project implementation, which will serve as a valuable asset for people and a sustainable development while we envision a clean, healthy, habitable and sustainable environment.

The organizational programs are aligned with the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a focus on Goal 13 (Climate Action), Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and Goal 3 (Good health and well-being).

Eco Clean for MAPA (Most Affected People and Areas) project is a theory of change that aimed to change environmental behavior, address environmental problems, and mitigate climate change in Northern Nigeria in order to achieve a sustainable environment.

At the end of the project, one thousand eight hundred and seventy (1,870) people were reached in twenty-three (23) communities of Nigeria, and over six hundred and thirty-five (635) people were empowered with knowledge, production of briquettes, and trees for planting.
The Eco Clean for MAPA hub center was also established and used for environmental sustainability activities and practices.

Like a faint sketch on a canvas, the journey of Eco Clean Active Initiative began with a bold step. A step into humanitarian world of Climate Change and Environmental sustainability. A figment of idea snowballing into something substantially impacting today.

An uncertain beginning metamorphosing into the present wins, and a brighter future full of high hopes and expectations.

We were not mistaken (though skeptical of the wherewithal), of our dream about our inroad into the environmental sustainability space.

We had the blueprint, and have succinctly pursued every detail on it.

The results? Very Evident!

As we look back into these past years, we sincerely recognize those that have been part of the journey (directly or by proxy), and graciously appreciate you all.

And to our Board members, management staff, and volunteers, your contributions (though may not be vividly seen), have pushed us to this level we are today. Thank you for giving yourselves to this worthy course.

With our shoulders raised for the feats achieved so far, and our heads high with much determined resolute, we pledge more actions; more innovative initiatives to advance the course of climate change sustainability.

WORLD CLEAN UP DAY 2026

On 21st September, 2026, Goodness Dickson spoke live on Spectrum TV in commemoration of World Cleanup Day 2026, discussing this year’s theme: From Clean Plates to Clean Cities.

He explored how what happens in our kitchens connects directly to the cleanliness and sustainability of our communities - from household food waste and poor disposal practices to Nigeria’s waste management challenge.

He emphasized that keeping our communities clean is a shared but differentiated responsibility. Government must provide and regulate effective waste systems, private waste companies must deliver reliable services, and households and businesses must reduce, separate, store and dispose of waste responsibly.

But beyond one-day cleanups, we need a systemic shift from simply evacuating waste to preventing it at the source, separating waste, turning organic waste into resources such as compost and biogas, supporting circular-economy enterprises, improving infrastructure, and involving communities in decision-making.

And for each of us, the change can start today. Buy and cook only what you need, store food properly, and plan to use your leftovers.

Clean plates can lead to clean homes, clean communities and, eventually, clean cities.
