In November 2025, the global climate community gathered in Belém for the landmark COP30. Among the diverse voices shaping critical climate conversations was Eco Clean Active Initiative (ECA), participating as an admitted observer and active delegate committed to advancing climate justice and community-led solutions.

COP30 provided a dynamic platform where governments, civil society, Indigenous leaders, and youth advocates came together to negotiate, collaborate, and push forward actionable climate commitments. For ECA, this was an opportunity not only to engage in high-level discussions but also to ensure that the realities of frontline communities - particularly from the Niger Delta - were heard and recognized.

Driving Dialogue on a Just Transition

A key highlight of ECA’s engagement was the co-hosting of a collaborative side event focused on pathways toward a just transition away from fossil fuels. The session created space for meaningful dialogue, storytelling, and knowledge exchange, grounded in lived experiences from regions heavily impacted by fossil fuel extraction.

The discussion centered on advancing the proposed Fossil Fuel Treaty as a critical global mechanism for addressing the climate crisis. Participants explored how coordinated international action can support a fair phase-out of fossil fuels while safeguarding livelihoods, protecting ecosystems, and promoting sustainable development - especially in vulnerable and resource-rich regions.

Elevating Frontline Voices

The side event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including frontline community leaders, Indigenous representatives, youth activists, civil society organizations, and global climate justice advocates. This inclusive dialogue ensured that those most affected by climate change and fossil fuel dependency were not just participants but central to shaping the conversation.

ECA contributed by sharing grassroots insights from the Niger Delta, highlighting the environmental degradation and socio-economic challenges linked to oil extraction. Through this, the organization amplified the voices of communities often excluded from global decision-making spaces and advocated for solutions rooted in equity and justice.

Impact and Way Forward

ECA’s participation at COP30 strengthened global awareness around the urgent need for a Fossil Fuel Treaty and reinforced the importance of centering climate justice in international negotiations. The engagement also fostered new partnerships, expanded advocacy networks, and contributed to ongoing efforts pushing for a just and equitable energy transition.

As the world moves from commitments to implementation, ECA remains committed to bridging global climate processes with local action- ensuring that the voices of frontline communities continue to shape the path toward a sustainable and just future.
