Eco Clean Active Initiative at COP28: Amplifying African Voices on Adaptation Finance
Eco Clean Active Initiative participated in COP28 with representatives who hosted a panel session at a side event. During the session, we contributed by highlighting the realities of adaptation finance in Africa, sharing grassroots perspectives, and discussing solutions to bridge the finance gap. We also delivered a strong call to action, urging world leaders to prioritize and accelerate adaptation finance for communities most affected by climate change.

The 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) brought together governments, civil society, youth, and key stakeholders from around the world to advance climate action under the Paris Agreement. Held from November 30 to December 13, 2023, in Dubai, COP28 served as a critical platform for dialogue, negotiation, and collaboration on pressing climate issues, including mitigation, adaptation, and climate finance.
Advancing Adaptation Finance for Africa
Eco Clean Active Initiative’s engagement at COP28 centered on adaptation finance, with a strong emphasis on African realities. As climate impacts intensify across the continent, the need for adequate and accessible funding for adaptation has become more urgent than ever. Our participation focused on examining the current state of adaptation finance, highlighting key outcomes from COP28, and addressing the widening gap between available resources and the actual needs of vulnerable communities.
We also emphasized practical pathways to close this gap, while reinforcing the urgency of implementing the Global Goal on Adaptation to build resilience in communities most affected by climate change.
Participation and Engagement
Our delegation actively contributed to COP28 by hosting a panel session during a side event. The session brought together government representatives, climate experts, civil society organizations, youth leaders, and development partners, with strong participation from African stakeholders.
During the discussion, Eco Clean Active Initiative shared grassroots perspectives from Nigeria and other climate-vulnerable regions. We highlighted the real-life challenges faced by communities on the frontlines of climate change—particularly the limited access to adaptation finance—and proposed actionable solutions to bridge this gap.
A Call to Action
A key highlight of our engagement was a strong call to action directed at global leaders and decision-makers. We urged for increased commitment to adaptation finance, ensuring that funds are not only scaled up but also made accessible to grassroots and community-based organizations working directly with affected populations.
Impact and Way Forward
Our participation at COP28 contributed to amplifying African and grassroots voices in global climate discussions. It strengthened awareness of the urgent need to close the adaptation finance gap and supported ongoing advocacy for the effective implementation of the Global Goal on Adaptation.
Beyond the conference, the engagement opened doors for new partnerships and collaborations that will support Eco Clean Active Initiative’s mission to drive sustainable, inclusive, and community-led climate action.
As we move forward, we remain committed to ensuring that the voices of Most Affected People and Areas (MAPA) are heard, and that climate solutions are equitable, locally driven, and impactful.
