In February 2024, the organization carried out a community leaders’ engagement in Gerreng community, Adamawa State, North-East Nigeria. The engagement focused on promoting environmental sustainability and introducing clean cooking energy alternatives as practical solutions to local challenges.

The program brought together community leaders, local stakeholders, and residents with a shared interest in protecting their environment. Through interactive sensitization sessions, participants were educated on the causes and impacts of climate change, as well as the importance of adopting sustainable environmental practices. Key topics included proper waste management using the 3Rs - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle - alongside climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies.

A major highlight of the engagement was the hands-on training on briquette production. This innovative approach to clean cooking energy demonstrated how waste materials can be transformed into affordable and eco-friendly fuel alternatives. By introducing briquettes, the initiative provided a sustainable solution to reduce dependence on firewood and charcoal, helping to curb deforestation and indoor air pollution.

Eco Clean Active Initiative led the planning and execution of the program, ensuring that the sessions were practical, inclusive, and tailored to the local context. By actively engaging community leaders, the initiative strengthened local ownership of climate action and positioned them as key drivers of change within their communities.

The impact of the engagement was significant. Participants gained a deeper understanding of climate change and environmental sustainability, while also acquiring practical skills in waste management and clean energy production. More importantly, the program inspired a shift in mindset - encouraging communities to move from awareness to action.

Through initiatives like this, Eco Clean Active Initiative continues to demonstrate that meaningful climate solutions begin at the grassroots. By empowering communities with knowledge and tools, the organization is not only addressing environmental challenges but also advancing climate justice for the most affected people and areas.
